Simmons suffers torn Achilles ahead of Kings opener
The Australian’s comeback was building momentum before another major injury stopped it.
Ben Simmons has suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during a Sacramento Kings practice, with an MRI confirming an injury that will require surgery.
The Kings said the injury happened during a live drill. ABC reported that Simmons is all but certain to miss the season, only days after signing a one-year deal and showing promising preseason form.
Simmons, 30, missed all of last season and has not played more than 60 regular-season games since 2018-19. On Instagram, he called the injury “another chapter in my journey, not the end of my story.”
Sacramento opens against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday afternoon Australian time.
