The calendar call that could reshape F1’s title finish
Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain scheduled, but the contingency planning around Imola has become a sporting issue.
Formula 1’s final races are still officially scheduled for Qatar and Abu Dhabi. That is the public position, and neither event has been cancelled.
The pressure point is timing. Teams have warned that they need a clear decision by mid-October because a late switch would affect freight, staffing, ticketing and the competitive rhythm of the final rounds. RaceFans reports that Imola is being readied as a possible fallback.
That makes this more than a travel story. If the calendar changes, the number of points still available changes with it. In a tight title fight, a shorter run-in can alter strategy, risk tolerance and the pressure placed on every remaining race.
For now, the only confirmed fact is uncertainty. F1 still intends to hold the Gulf races, but the existence of a contingency plan means the championship may be shaped by a decision made before the cars return to the grid.
