Qatar World Cup 10-Ball: Last-64 field set, knockout starts Tuesday
DOHA — The Last-64 field at the $450,000 Qatar World Cup 10-Ball is locked in after Monday night's losers' qualification round wrapped at the Ezdan Palace Hotel, with single-elimination knockout play — races to 11 — set to begin Tuesday at 11:00 local time (08:00 GMT).
No. 2 seed Joshua Filler and Carlo Biado both survived the losers' route after being pushed to the one-loss side on Monday. They are joined by Alex Pagulayan, Niels Feijen, Thorsten Hohmann and Regalario among the final qualifiers, completing the 64-name draw.
Jayson Shaw is the biggest name missing — billiardnews.net reports the Englishman was beaten by Dakkak — while German great Ralf Souquet was also sent home, joining No. 8 seed Albin Ouschan, who fell earlier Monday. According to sports23.net, 13 Filipino players reached the Last 64, the largest national contingent in the field.
Why it matters: From here every match is sudden death over race-to-11, with $100,000 waiting for the champion — and with Souquet, Ouschan and Shaw all gone before the bracket even began, the draw is wide open for a Filipino contingent that makes up nearly a fifth of it.
