CHEROKEE, N.C. — Oscar Dominguez beat Tom Cousins 5-4 in Wednesday night's final of the National Shootout at the Ultimate Pool USA Grand Finals, wrapping up at about 11:02 p.m. ET, closing out the week's showcase invitational on the TV Arena table at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort.

Dominguez reached the final by beating Joven Bustamante 6-3, then Declan Brennan 5-3. Cousins had reached it by beating Shane Van Boening 6-3, then Craig Waddingham 6-3.

Earlier in the evening, Craig Waddingham beat Chris Melling 8-2 and Declan Brennan beat Joe Prince 6-3 in the remaining quarter-finals.

The 32-player invitational played out its last three rounds on Wednesday — the last 16 in the morning, quarter-finals in the evening session and the semi-finals and final under lights — all on the single streamed table under the league's 30-minute match clock, with level scores settled by the six-ball shootout tiebreak.

Why it matters: The Shootout is the Grand Finals' headline men's invitational — 32 of the league's best-known names in a one-table knockout — and the second title settled in Cherokee this week after Margaret Fefilova-Styer won the women's edition on Monday. BilliardNews' Shootout coverage.
