CHEROKEE, N.C. — Joven Bustamante beat Shane Van Boening 5-3 in Thursday night's final of the National 10-Ball Showdown at the Ultimate Pool USA Grand Finals, wrapping up at about 11:04 p.m. ET, closing out the 16-player invitational on the TV table at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort.

Bustamante reached the final by beating Sofia Mast 7-5, then Rodney Morris 5-4, then Tyler Styer 5-2. Van Boening had reached it by beating Jesus Atencio 5-4, then Roberto Gomez 5-3, then Gerson Martinez Boza 5-4.

Oscar Dominguez, a day after lifting the National Shootout trophy, went out in the last 16 here, beaten 5-6 by Rodney Morris. Tom Cousins, Wednesday's Shootout runner-up, also fell in the last 16, losing 2-4 to Gerson Martinez Boza.

The 16-player invitational played start to finish on Thursday on the arena TV table — the last 16 through the day, quarter-finals in the evening and the semi-finals and final under lights — under UPL 10-Ball rules: call-pocket on the seven-footer with jump cues banned.

Why it matters: Bustamante's win over Van Boening on the TV table is worth $5,000, with $2,000 to the runner-up and $1,000 each to semi-finalists Martinez Boza and Styer. The Showdown was the week's last invitational, run alongside day one of the 512-player National Open, which continues through the weekend at Cherokee. BilliardNews' Showdown preview.
